The Liberation of Active Listening

THE LIBERATION OF ACTIVE LISTEN 

Most of us hear, but few of us LISTEN. When we hear, we are engaging the cerebral cortex that assesses, measures, and calculates in order for us to react while remaining safe. It is directly connected to our survival instinct that uses this sense to analyze sounds for possible danger and respond appropriately so that we can continue to exist. As one of our five senses, it helps us adapt our self-awareness, intelligence, and cunning to external stimulus. The development of our ego identity and our perception of separation form others is directly connected to this. Thus, we often hear so that we can react and be safe. The response in not always about appropriate and heart centered communication, but is about giving SELF the advantage and upper hand. We do this continually and unconsciously.
